Barbara Bechtel, LMFT, LCPC

Barbara Bechtel is both a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC). Barb earned her Bachelors degree in Psychology and Sociology from the University of Notre Dame, and her Masters degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Northern Illinois University’s Accredited Graduate Program in Marriage and Family Therapy.

Barb has over 10 years experience working with individuals (children and adults), couples, parents, and families, helping them to reach stability in their lives. Barb utilizes a strength-based and solution-focused approach in her clinical work, which complements the tenets of the Nurtured Heart Approach™. Specifically, Barb has an extensive background in parent-child relationships, having worked for years with families who were having behavioral problems with defiant children and adolescents. In the community agency setting, she was instrumental in collaborating with outside systems, including child welfare, schools, hospitals, and courts, in efforts to provide the best outcomes for the children and families referred.

At the core, Barb believes that clients already have the potential to make changes to better their lives or situations. She takes pride in her role to help clients tap into that potential and get where they want to be, one step at a time.
